About this job
We are looking for a hardworking and dependable Farm, Habitat and Wildlife Associate to assist in the day-to-day maintenance of our large rural properties consisting of forested areas, open fields, trails, streams, and habitat zones. This is a hands-on position requiring practical experience with outdoor labor, land management, herbicidal spraying and the use of power tools to keep the property clean, functional and ecologically healthy.
Key Responsibilities:
Land & Habitat Maintenance:
Clear and maintain trails, access roads, and firebreaks through forested and brushy terrain.
Manage overgrowth, deadfall, and invasive species using chainsaws, brush cutters, and other tools.
Manage timber, underbrush, and trail systems to support wildlife traffic and hunter access.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Operate and maintain equipment such as:
ATVs/UTVs for hauling and transport
Chainsaws, pole saws, brush cutters, woodchippers, leaf blowers.
Property Upkeep & Improvements:
Maintain fences, gates, bridges, culverts, and signage throughout the property.
Assist with light construction or repairs to outbuildings, hunting blinds, or shelters.
Monitor and maintain drainage systems, culverts, and other erosion-prone areas.
Assist Gardeners & Landscapers with general property cleanup & special projects.
Required Skills & Experience:
2+ years of experience in land or property maintenance, forestry, farm work, or related field
Experience and ability to operate power tools and farm equipment such as:
chainsaws, pole saws, hedge trimmers, drills, etc.
UTVs, sprayers, dump trailers.
Ability to read land maps, follow herbicide spraying schedules, and adhere to conservation plans.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team in rugged outdoor conditions.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently in remote outdoor conditions
· Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience on a working farm or managed hunting property
Knowledge of wildlife habitats is strongly preferred
Familiarity with stream care, trail building, erosion control, or habitat improvement
Strong working knowledge of brush and trail clearing techniques.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 50–75 lbs regularly
Comfortable working in all weather conditions and rugged, wooded, or wet environments year-round.
Ability to stand, walk, and perform manual labor for extended periods
Operate equipment over uneven terrain and wooded areas
