FULL TIME FARM EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Spiering Farms is seeking to fill a full-time, permanent position that constitutes an introduction to farming life, with an immediate start time. The job would be ideal for a young person who wants to learn more about every aspect of modern agriculture. We are looking for a punctual, hard working, and committed person who is willing to try their hand at many different tasks. About Us: The farm is a successful 700-acre family-owned seed farm specializing in native plants. We’re located in Powell, WY, near Yellowstone National Park and other mountain/outdoor recreational opportunities. We have a high commitment to quality seed production and growing relationships. There is also a vibrant Catholic community in the area, with quite a few young families. Job Description: This position will fill an essential role on our farm. It includes fieldwork, irrigation, work on and with machinery, and work in a seed-mill. Winter hours will include lifting and stacking in an indoor light-industry environment. Summer hours will often involve fieldwork for hand-control of weeds. No experience is necessary, and training will be provided for all tasks, but the right person will be physically fit (able to repeatedly lift 50 lb.), have an eye for detail, be comfortable around machinery, and have zero allergies to dust, pollen, grasses, or bees. Responsibilities and Duties: • Perform hand weed control which include walking fields and digging out weeds • Handle irrigation pipe • Operate farm equipment: tractors, trucks, combines, forklift, etc. • Assist with maintaining, repairing, and cleaning equipment • Learn to work and operate a seed cleaning facility Qualifications: • Be willing and able to work in a challenging outdoor environment • Have the physical stamina to work outside in the heat and repeatedly lift up to 50 lb. • Be willing to work in dusty or dirty conditions with proper PPE • No allergies to grass, pollen or dust Wages and Schedule: The normal work schedule is 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, but will sometimes be more depending on the season. Starting wage is $20 per hour with housing assistance available for the right candidate.
