Head of Horticultural Operations

Horticulture Leadership Role: • Develop and implement a horticultural vision to showcase Maine's natural beauty. • Establish strategic goals in collaboration with the VP of Plants and Science. • Oversee overall plant health, soil nutrition, and sustainable practices, including Integrated Pest Management. • Lead adherence to organization's policies (Living Collections, Tree Care, IMP), procedures, and collections ethics. • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including OSHA. • Manage plant production, propagation, nursery operations, and seasonal display plans. • Supervise garden installation, maintenance, renovation, and contractor relationships. Key Responsibilities: • Build a positive team culture within the Horticulture Department. • Directly supervise and develop horticulture managers and IPM specialists. • Develop professional relationships with internal staff, volunteers, members, vendors, contractors, media, and the public. • Implement effective training and safety programs for team members. • Collaborate with Plant Science and Collections to support team culture, conservation goals, and record-keeping.
