Oconee Street United Methodist Church Childcare Worker Job Description Ministry Purpose: To provide safe, secure, clean and nurturing care to our children ages 0 - 5. Responsibilities include playing with the children or directing their play, reading to them, praying with them, and exhibiting patience and love at all times and relating the events of the day to parents. Infants and small children learn through their experiences with people and places. Childcare workers must model kindness, compassion, and concern in all interactions with our children. Simple values such as sharing, non-violence, and thankfulness are underlined when children play, have snack or do any other basic routine in the nursery. Children learn to know and trust God when they experience church as a safe and welcoming place. Responsibilities: • Provide age-appropriate care, including: Feeding, changing diapers, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding, sitting with, and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, crafts and play. • Maintain a polite, friendly and courteous approach to dealing with children, parents, volunteers, and co-workers. Friendliness and smiles go a long way. • Arrive on time. • Serve snacks and drinks during nursery times. Common sense should be used when preparing and offering food. Our nursery is a peanut and nut free area. We have had children who have allergies. • Ensure that each child is signed in and clearly connected with his/her parent when leaving the nursery. Communicate any diaper or feeding issues to parents. • Change diapers as needed. Potty training children should be taken to the restroom at least once. • Clean and straighten the nursery after the children leave. This includes replacing toys where they belong, sanitizing tables and diaper changing areas, and disposing of trash in the adult restroom. Sanitize (antibacterial wipe/wash) of toys that children have placed their mouths. • Report any illness of a child to the Nursery Coordinator. • Communicate to the nursery coordinator in advance any necessary absences. Two week notice is preferable. • Report concerns or ideas for improvement to the Nursery Coordinator or Staff Pastor/Parish Committee Chairperson. Job Type: Part-time Pay: $15.00 per hour Expected hours: 1 – 3 per week Benefits: • Flexible schedule • Professional development assistance Application Question(s): • This position requires candidates to be 18+ years of age. Do you meet this requirement? • This position requires Sundays (9:15am-12:15pm), some nights (usually 5:30pm-7:30 or 8:30pm when asked in past by other ministries), some holidays (Easter and Christmas are busy, busy times). Will you be able to fill these schedule requirements? • Communication with other workers and coordinator are HUGE in this role via group text, individual text, email, and phone calls. Will you be able and responsive to communication? Experience: • Childcare under age 5: 10 years (Preferred) Work Location: In person
