Position Description: Under supervision, the assistant gardener assists in and performs basic landscaping, gardening, and related work. Primary Responsibilities (work will include some or all of the following): Assist in and perform tasks such as mulching, raking, plant bed preparation, weeding, watering, planting, and pruning. Assist in care of turf including mowing, soil prep, sowing, aerating, mulching, application of amendments, and irrigation. Assist in irrigation of indoor plant collections and other conservatory tasks. Assist in and perform tasks involved in operation and care of hand- and power-gardening tools and equipment. Operate motorized equipment incidental to the performance of duties. As directed, perform any other task related to horticulture needs, cleaning of grounds and equipment. Qualifications: Some experience and/or education in gardening work during spring, summer, and/or fall, including work with power tools, in addition to experience in caring for trees, shrubs, perennials, and lawns and/or some experience and/or education related to indoor plant care Work Environment Issues: Ability to work outside in all types of weather Ability to lift 50 pounds Benefits: BBG offers certain benefits to part-time employees including: Up to 56 hours of sick leave Short-term disability/New York Paid Family Leave As a 501(c)3, BBG is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Eligible Employer.
