About this job

Wright's Dairy Farm is hiring a Dairy Herd Manager to lead the care of its Holstein herd in North Smithfield. Oversee animal health, breeding, milk quality, and the people responsible for daily herd work. What you will do β€’ Coordinate herd health and reproduction with the veterinarian and nutritionist. β€’ Manage calf, maternity, and transition-cow care and maintain accurate records. β€’ Lead staff, monitor milk quality, and manage treatment supplies. β€’ Support equipment and seasonal field work as needed. How the work fits together The Wright family's dairy began in 1914 with a small herd and grew into a farm that produces, processes, and sells milk locally. On-site pasteurization became part of the business in the 1930s, followed decades later by a bakery and retail operation. Cows remain at the center of that story. Their care includes carefully planned feed, veterinary attention, comfortable resting areas, ventilation, and regular hoof care. Much of the forage comes from the farm's own fields, linking crop production with the animals' nutritional needs. The direct connection between farming and the products customers buy makes consistent herd care especially important. This role contributes to a multigenerational agricultural business with a long relationship to its surrounding community. What the employer is looking for β€’ Have relevant agricultural education or equivalent experience and progressive dairy-herd leadership experience. β€’ Be proficient in artificial insemination, herd software, and supervising staff. β€’ Operate tractors and skid steers and hold a clean driver's license. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Annual salary is $70,000–$80,000. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement matching, paid leave, discounts, and professional development. Full-time, year-round work includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as herd needs require. How to apply Apply for Dairy Herd Manager through Wright's careers portal. Include your dairy-management background, breeding experience, and leadership qualifications. The farm is at 200 Woonsocket Hill Road; this position requires on-site animal care.
