Farm Hand – Agricultural Research

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is hiring a full-time Farm Hand at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center near Clay Center. The 34,000-acre research operation supports high-priority work for the beef, sheep, and swine industries. Within the university system, this position is classified as an Agricultural Research Technician I. Responsibilities • Carry out irrigated forage-crop operations, including tillage, planting, approved crop applications, irrigation, and harvest • Operate agricultural field equipment safely and efficiently • Complete routine equipment maintenance and basic repairs • Help feed and care for livestock as operational needs require • Install and repair fencing • Assist with building, facility, pasture, and general farm maintenance • Travel between the center's pastures and facilities and work irregular hours when farm conditions require it Minimum qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of agriculture experience; relevant education may substitute for experience year for year • Able to operate, maintain, and perform basic repairs on farm equipment • Valid driver's license and ability to meet university driving requirements • Prepared for physical work and outdoor work in inclement weather • Must complete the required driving-record, physical, and background checks Compensation and benefits Pay starts at $18 per hour.
