Kansas State University's Veterinary Health Center is hiring a full-time Large Animal Caretaker in Manhattan. The Animal Technician I provides daily feed, water, housing, sanitation, and handling support for large animals receiving care or participating in teaching activities at the veterinary hospital. What you will do • Provide routine feed, water, bedding, and animal-care support based on instructions and species needs • Observe animals and communicate changes in condition, behavior, feed intake, or facility safety • Clean and disinfect stalls, pens, treatment areas, feed equipment, and other large-animal spaces • Safely move, restrain, load, unload, or transfer animals when directed • Receive, store, and transport feed, hay, shavings, and farm supplies • Keep aisles, work areas, tools, and equipment clean and ready for hospital operations • Work cooperatively with veterinary staff, faculty, students, clients, and other caretakers • Help guide student workers when assigned and follow biosecurity and workplace-safety procedures Qualifications and schedule A valid driver's license is required. Kansas State prefers candidates with three years of large-animal experience or work in a veterinary hospital and practical knowledge of animal nutrition, feed and water needs, housing, handling, and transport. The job is physically active and requires dependable care every day of the year. The normal schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., plus a rotating weekend and holiday schedule. Pay is $15.50–$17 per hour. Benefits include health and life insurance, retirement, and generous vacation and paid-time-off programs.
