Penn State's Department of Animal Science is hiring multiple part-time workers for the dairy barns at University Park. Students and non-students are eligible. The job covers the essential daily work of a teaching and research dairy, including milking, feeding, sanitation, animal movement, and routine herd care.
What you will do
β’ Prepare cows and milk in a double-10 parlor
β’ Feed and water cattle and move feed and bedding through the facility
β’ Clean stalls, barns, work areas, and equipment
β’ Safely move animals between pens and work areas
β’ Assist trained staff with routine animal-health procedures
β’ Depending on assignment and experience, train to operate tractors, mowers, and skid-steer loaders
β’ Follow dairy safety, sanitation, and animal-care procedures consistently
Schedule and requirements
Shifts run 5:00 a.m.β1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.β9:00 p.m. Workers must be available every other weekend and must have reliable transportation to the farm. The position requires a valid driver's license, a satisfactory motor-vehicle-record review, and Penn State's standard background checks. Successful candidates should be dependable around livestock and machinery, able to complete repetitive physical work, and willing to maintain careful milking and sanitation routines during early, late, and weekend shifts.
