Fine Gardening Crew Leader
Native Edible Designs
🌱
About this job
Native Edible Designs is hiring a Fine Gardening Crew Leader for gardens across southern Rhode Island. Lead hands-on plant care and small-team assignments, combining horticultural knowledge with clear communication and thoughtful customer service.
What you will do
• Care for perennial, annual, and vegetable gardens and seasonal containers.
• Prune small trees and shrubs and help with plant installations.
• Coordinate gardeners, record work and time, and communicate with clients.
• Keep tools organized and report repair needs to the owner.
How the work fits together
Owner Cassidy Need brings experience in nursery management, farm work, and fine gardening to a business centered on the relationships between plants, people, and place. Designs combine native perennials with herbs, berries, fruit trees, and vegetables. The goal is to create useful, attractive gardens that support ecological relationships and respond to each site's conditions. Projects range from vegetable beds and pollinator areas to woodland gardens, seaside plantings, and the renewal of established spaces. Attention to individual plants matters alongside the overall composition. The small team works with clients who value that level of care, and ongoing maintenance helps a design develop beyond its initial installation. Crew leadership connects those garden-specific needs with organized, consistent work in the field.
What the employer is looking for
• Bring three to four or more years of professional gardening experience.
• Have a driver's license, reliable transportation, and confident tool-handling skills.
• Lift 40 pounds and work full physical days in changing weather.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
Pay is $30–$35/hour. Full- and part-time arrangements are available. Benefits include training, potential continuing-education support, and four paid holidays annually after four months. Leadership experience is helpful.
How to apply
Email your resume, cover letter, and two professional references to nativeedibledesigns@gmail.com. Identify the position and describe your outdoor-work experience, possible start date, available days and hours, and transportation. Complete applications are required for consideration.
