About this job

Brie O'Connor Garden Design is hiring a part-time Gardener for its 2026 season, continuing through December. Work two or three days weekly, with some flexibility. What you will do • Plant, prune, weed, mulch, rake, and remove spent flowers. • Help maintain gardens and install new planting designs. • Work carefully with hand tools, soil, compost, and plants. How the work fits together Brie O'Connor leads a small gardening practice based in West Kingston. Her work combines plant knowledge with an artistic approach to color, texture, and seasonal change. The business specializes in perennials, shrubs, edible gardens, native plants, and coastal sites. Garden care is performed organically, by hand or with electric tools. Projects range from individual beds to broader planting plans, with attention to pollinators and the conditions of each property. Container gardens add another kind of hands-on work, bringing plants to patios, decks, and entrances. The team values horticultural education and offers learning both on the job and through classes. Sites include southern Rhode Island, Newport, Middletown, and Mystic, Connecticut. What the employer is looking for • Have a valid license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation; your own vehicle is preferred. • Communicate respectfully, follow directions, and work independently or with colleagues. • Prior gardening or plant-identification knowledge is preferred. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Expect sustained bending, kneeling, shoveling, reaching, and outdoor work in heat, cold, or light rain. You must lift fifty pounds and climb into truck beds about three feet high. Benefits include two paid days off per season and a paid thirty-minute lunch. Confirm pay and assigned days during hiring. How to apply Email your resume and two references to Brie@BrieOConnorGardens.com. Include your availability, transportation arrangements, and relevant gardening experience.
