The University of Kentucky's Department of Veterinary Science is hiring a full-time temporary farm worker at North Farm in Lexington. The position centers on dependable daily horse care and the routine grounds work needed to keep a university agricultural facility safe, clean, and functional. Responsibilities • Feed horses each day according to farm instructions and established schedules • Check water, gates, fences, stalls, paddocks, and work areas while completing care rounds • Observe horses during routine work and report injuries, illness, unusual behavior, or facility concerns promptly • Handle horses calmly and follow the farm's safety and animal-care procedures • Mow assigned grounds and operate related equipment safely • Use string trimmers and hand tools for weed control around fences, buildings, lanes, and other areas • Help with general farm cleaning, organization, minor upkeep, and other seasonal priorities • Coordinate with the supervisor and other farm staff so animal care continues on weekends and holidays Qualifications and working conditions Prior farm experience is the listed skill requirement. The job requires outdoor work around horses, pushing and lifting up to 50 pounds, and the ability to perform repetitive grounds and animal-care tasks reliably. A careful approach, punctual attendance, awareness around livestock and equipment, and willingness to follow instructions are essential. This is a temporary STEPS position scheduled for 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are coordinated with the supervisor and may include weekends and holidays. Pay is $15 per hour.
