Part-Time Agricultural Assistant I — Greenhouse & Growth Chambers

Iowa State University's Office of the Vice President for Research is hiring a part-time Agricultural Assistant for greenhouse and plant-growth-chamber operations in the Molecular Biology and Carver Co-Laboratory buildings. The role supports researchers by keeping controlled plant environments healthy, clean, well supplied, and operating reliably. What you will do • Maintain greenhouse and growth-chamber conditions needed for plant research • Monitor plant health and carry out pest-management practices, including beneficial-insect programs • Inspect, operate, and troubleshoot lighting, ventilation, environmental controls, and growth chambers • Prepare fertilizer solutions and complete routine watering, plant care, and maintenance • Clean, disinfect, and reset greenhouses, chambers, benches, and work areas • Track soils, fertilizers, pots, and other supplies and replenish inventory as needed • Sterilize or dispose of plant material and seed according to facility protocols • Communicate with researchers about plant care, space use, maintenance, and service needs • Keep operating records, train facility users, and provide practical technical support Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred candidates have worked with plants in a greenhouse, growth chamber, research, or agricultural setting and understand irrigation, sanitation, environmental controls, or facility maintenance. Coursework or experience in horticulture, entomology, plant science, agriculture, or biology is also helpful. This is a regular, benefits-eligible position working 20 hours per week, with flexibility to establish a schedule that meets operational needs.
