Hardscape / Landscape Installer

ONYX Design & Builds is hiring an experienced hardscape and landscape installer for year-round work based around Gilbert. The owner-operated company builds detailed residential outdoor spaces and expects this employee to help lead a two-to-four-person crew through grading, pavers, turf, irrigation, lighting, and related construction. This is a skilled field role with published hourly pay and project bonuses, not an entry-level maintenance opening. What you will do • Lead or perform grading, base preparation, compaction, and installation of pavers and travertine. • Install artificial turf, walkways, walls, planters, and pergola footings to the approved layout and elevation. • Install or modify irrigation lines, valves, and controllers and support low-voltage landscape lighting. • Read plans and elevations, stage materials, and coordinate the work of a two-to-four-person crew. • Operate assigned tools and equipment safely while maintaining a clean, controlled residential job site. • Provide clear project updates and raise scope, material, access, or quality concerns early. How the work fits together Each project moves through layout, excavation and grade, base and compaction, utilities, structural or hardscape installation, finish materials, planting-related systems, and cleanup. The installer must understand what later phases require before closing earlier work. Measurements, elevations, compaction, drainage, irrigation, and client communication are checked throughout instead of being left for a final punch list. The owners remain active in projects, so field progress and decisions should be communicated directly and accurately. What the employer is looking for • At least three years of relevant professional installation experience is required by the employer. • Ability to read plans and elevations and independently use the tools and equipment associated with the listed work. • Valid driver's license, reliable attendance for 6:00 a.m. starts, and ability to lift approximately 75 pounds. • Crew leadership, quality-control judgment, safe work habits, and professional communication at occupied homes. Schedule, conditions, and compensation ONYX publishes $25–$38 per hour depending on experience, plus project bonuses. The opening is full-time and year-round, with 6:00 a.m. starts and work scheduled Monday through Saturday. This is an in-person horticulture and outdoor position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift. Applicants should expect active work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, noise, dust, mud, pollen, heat, cold, rain, or work around moving equipment.
