About this job

Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm is hiring a part-time Historic Interpreter. Bring nineteenth-century farm life to visitors through tours, demonstrations, and hands-on work at the Stroudsburg farm. What you will do • Lead school and public tours, workshops, and special-event activities. • Learn and demonstrate historical farm chores, trades, and domestic skills. • Wear period clothing, interpret in character, and follow safety procedures. • Help with physical farm tasks, including gardening or animal care. How the work fits together The farm occupies a landscape of pasture, woodland, and streams in the Pocono Mountains. Its historic setting includes a farmhouse, an 1850s bank barn, a cabin, and buildings once used for storing ice, smoking food, and other household needs. Cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses, and rabbits help illustrate the varied work of a family farm. Programs explore agriculture alongside food preparation, community celebrations, and the technologies people used in daily life. Children, families, school groups, and adults encounter that history through different kinds of visits. Interpreters connect the buildings and animals with the people who depended on them, turning the site into an active learning experience rather than a collection of objects. What the employer is looking for • Learn animal husbandry and historical skills; education or historic-site experience is helpful. • Lift 50 pounds and work outdoors in varied weather. • Pass required child-protection and criminal checks; provide youth working papers when applicable. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Starting pay is $10/hour. Autumn schedules generally run 15–20 hours weekly; busier spring and summer periods run 30–35. Flexibility is required, including summer weekends. The position reports to the Director of Education. How to apply Contact programs@quietvalley.org or call 570-992-6161 to apply. Describe your experience with visitors, children, farming, or historical demonstrations and your availability. The farm is at 347 Quiet Valley Road.
