About this job

Old South Carriage Company is hiring a full-time Farm Crew Member to care for draft horses and support farm operations. Work at the Johns Island farm and transport horses to the company's Charleston stables. What you will do β€’ Feed, water, groom, and provide basic health care for horses. β€’ Clean stalls and maintain barns, facilities, and equipment. β€’ Drive a truck and trailer to move horses safely between sites. β€’ Prepare horses for tours and assist with farm projects. How the work fits together The family-owned company began in 1983 with three horses and one carriage. Its Belgian and Percheron draft horses now move between city stables and the Sugah Cain farm, where pasture time is an important part of their routine. Farm and barn staff maintain feeding, grooming, rest, and health-care arrangements that support that rotation. The farm provides room for grazing, while the downtown stable offers sheltered stalls and water between tours. Regular veterinary and farrier attention are also part of the care program. The crew's work connects these two settings, keeping the animals' needs central while supporting a business that introduces visitors to Charleston. This position is hands-on horse and property work, not a tour-guide role. What the employer is looking for β€’ Have confident draft-horse handling and truck-and-trailer driving experience. β€’ Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. β€’ Work independently and with a team, with a professional, hospitable attitude. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Starting pay is $18–$20/hour based on experience. Work five shifts weekly, with morning and evening shifts available. Open availability is needed across seven days, within a 6 a.m.–10 p.m. operating window; this does not mean working every day. How to apply Apply for Farm Crew Team through the company's careers portal. Detail your draft-horse experience, trailering skills, driving background, and availability. Continuing education and opportunities to advance are part of the role.
