Landscape Crew Leader

Southern Grounds Landscape Management is hiring a crew leader to organize and complete recurring maintenance in Tuscaloosa. The working leader decides the most efficient strategy for each property, delegates tasks, participates in mowing and horticultural detail work, and keeps the route paperwork accurate. Success is measured in both team productivity and the visibly maintained condition of each property. What you will do • Plan the task sequence for each property and delegate work to crew members. • Work alongside the crew on mowing, edging, string trimming, blowing, and landscape cleanup. • Lead weeding and pruning of planted beds and installation of pine straw, mulch, trees, and other plants. • Drive landscape trucks and complete assigned duties at the shop. • Maintain route sheets, fuel tickets, receipts, and other paperwork associated with the crew. • Inspect finished properties and coach the group toward neat, efficient, safe work. How the work fits together The leader starts by matching the day's route with staffing, truck, trailer, equipment, and materials. At each property, tasks are divided so mowing and horticultural details finish together without leaving debris or missed areas. The leader works physically while monitoring pace and quality, then records fuel, receipts, and route completion. Good leadership means correcting problems early and returning with an organized truck and accurate paperwork. Schedule, conditions, and compensation The published crew-leader scale is $16–$23 per hour across three experience levels. The business lists operating hours Monday–Friday 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:00 a.m.–noon, but candidates should confirm the actual assigned schedule, overtime, starting tier, Saturday frequency, benefits, and year-round workload. This is an in-person horticulture and outdoor position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift.
