About this job
Benevolence Orchard & Gardens is hiring a full-time Market Garden Manager to lead its diversified vegetable and herb production in Boulder, Colorado. This is a hands-on position for a grower who can turn seasonal plans into consistent crops while maintaining healthy soil, an organized workplace, and a constructive small-team culture. The garden supplies a farm stand, CSA, and value-added production, so the manager's decisions directly affect both field performance and what customers receive each week.
Crop planning and production
β’ Build workable crop, succession, and harvest schedules for diversified vegetables and herbs
β’ Lead seeding, transplanting, bed preparation, cultivation, irrigation, and harvest work
β’ Monitor germination, crop vigor, weed pressure, pests, disease, and weather-related risks
β’ Use organic and regenerative methods to support soil fertility and manage crop problems
β’ Adjust planting and labor plans when conditions or customer needs change
β’ Keep straightforward records that help the ownership team understand progress, yields, and upcoming needs
The manager is responsible for stewarding crops from seed through harvest rather than simply supervising from the sidelines. Daily work may move from checking irrigation and identifying a pest issue to setting up a planting, harvesting an order, or helping prepare produce for sale. The successful person will understand that quality depends on many small decisions made on time: correct spacing, careful watering, clean harvest technique, useful notes, and early communication when something is not working.
Sales-channel coordination
Harvests need to be organized for the farm stand, CSA, and value-added products. The manager will communicate what is ready, what quantity can be promised, and what should remain in the field. They will help keep harvest containers, tools, washing areas, and storage spaces orderly so produce moves efficiently and safely from the garden to its destination.
Leadership and workplace expectations
The role trains, supervises, and works alongside garden assistants and volunteers. This calls for clear demonstrations, realistic task assignments, and calm follow-up. A good manager establishes a useful pace without sacrificing safety or quality, prepares tools before people arrive, and makes sure cleanup and records are completed. The position also helps maintain tools, irrigation, infrastructure, and overall garden organization.
Qualifications
Applicants should have at least two seasons of practical market-garden or farm experience, strong plant knowledge, and the ability to solve production problems in real time. Candidates must be comfortable working independently, leading by example, and performing sustained physical work outdoors in changing weather. Alignment with regenerative agriculture and community-centered food systems is important.
Schedule and compensation
This is a full-time position averaging 40 hours per week. Pay is $25β$35 per hour depending on experience. Applicants should use the employer's Work With Us form to confirm the expected start date, normal workdays, peak-season schedule, time-off practices, and any additional benefits before accepting an offer.
How to apply
Open the Work With Us section at benevolenceorchard.com/getinvolved and submit the contact form for the Market Garden Manager opening. Include a concise summary of your growing experience, leadership background, availability, and familiarity with crop planning, irrigation, organic soil care, CSA harvests, farm stands, or value-added production.
