About this job

Grass Cattle Company is hiring a year-round Farm Manager for its Charlotte and Hinesburg operations. Work with owner Steve Schubart to manage livestock, farm sales, and daily upkeep. What you will do β€’ Assist cattle rotations and winter feeding; lead poultry and egg-production work. β€’ Maintain farm stores and lead Saturday market operations. β€’ Support events, fencing, water systems, and maintenance projects. β€’ Take responsibility for farm decisions when Steve is away. How the work fits together Steve grew up around animals on his family's Vermont property, but his interest in farming as a career took shape while working on a grass-fed beef ranch in California. He returned to Vermont for agricultural training and founded Grass Cattle Company in 2016 with thirty cattle on leased land. Two years later, he moved the operation to a farm along Mud Hollow Brook in Charlotte, eventually purchasing it as a first-generation farmer. The business remains centered on pasture-based meat and direct relationships with customers. Cattle, chickens, farm stores, markets, and seasonal events now contribute to the enterprise. The manager joins an owner-led operation where animal care and selling the farm's products are both important parts of keeping the business running. What the employer is looking for β€’ Bring relevant farming experience, initiative, and practical problem-solving skills. β€’ Be comfortable with livestock, customers, and independent responsibility. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Salary is $40,000–$48,000 annually. Benefits include three weeks' vacation, sick time, $250 monthly farm credit, market tips, and possible bonus. Expect 40–45-hour grazing-season weeks, lighter winters, weekend markets, and weekday time off. Occasional seven-day chore coverage and workday on-call duties are required. On-site hookups require your own trailer or tiny home. How to apply Email Steve@grasscattlecompany.com with your resume, references, experience, and interest in the position. Discuss scheduling and on-call expectations during the farm visit arranged as part of the hiring process.
