Assistant Farm Manager

Marr Pond Farm is hiring for the Assistant Farm Manager position in Sangerville, ME. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. What you will do • Plan and direct seasonal crop, orchard, livestock, labor, equipment, material, and facility priorities for the assigned farm. • Train and supervise staff while also working alongside the crew during planting, cultivation, harvest, animal care, maintenance, and other time-sensitive work. • Track production, quality, safety, staffing, and resource needs and communicate decisions and exceptions across the farm's operating teams. • Help the owner plan and direct daily organic vegetable work, using field maps and crop readiness to set clear greenhouse, cultivation, harvest, and maintenance priorities for the crew. • Lead harvests, delegate field assignments, manage hoeing, thinning, weeding, propagation, and mushroom-yard work, and give crew members useful support and feedback. • Evaluate crop condition and readiness, maintain records, assist at farmers markets and deliveries, and communicate staffing, pest, disease, equipment, and production concerns to the owner. Schedule, conditions, and compensation This is a full-time seasonal management role beginning in May and ending the week before Thanksgiving, with exact dates agreed at hire. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with 40–50 hours possible at peak and regular market responsibilities. Starting pay is $18–$20 per hour. Perks include farm vegetables, possible performance bonuses, and educational opportunities; housing and health insurance are not provided. The employer publishes $18–$20 per hour.
