Vegetable Manager — Lewis Farm
Farms Work Wonders
👨🌾
About this job
Farms Work Wonders is hiring a Vegetable Manager for Lewis Farm in Wardensville. Lead organic vegetable production while mentoring local young people. The position reports to the Managing Director and starts at $43,000 annually.
What you will do
• Manage crop planning, planting, harvest, and post-harvest handling.
• Coordinate produce deliveries to the organization's market and restaurant.
• Manage department finances and improve production systems.
• Coach crew members, maintain records, and uphold quality and cleanliness.
How the work fits together
Lewis Farm occupies a historic farm property beside the Cacapon River. Its vegetables and pasture-raised livestock supply the Wardensville Garden Market, Mack's Bingo Kitchen and Bakery, and local customers. The project began in 2016 with a garden, greenhouse, and a small youth crew. High tunnels, expanded growing fields, a packhouse, and temperature-controlled storage followed as vegetable production developed. Organic certification arrived in 2019. Crop planning is closely connected to the culinary team, including farm walks that help match harvests with seasonal menus. Cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry add another dimension to the farm through rotational grazing. Profits from the organization's businesses return to its youth programs. The Vegetable Manager contributes both agricultural skill and day-to-day mentorship within that practical, community-based learning environment.
What the employer is looking for
• Bring vegetable-growing ability, sound organization, and a commitment to coaching others.
• Hold a valid driver's license, lift 50 pounds, and stand for extended periods.
• Be able to commute to Wardensville and adapt to changing priorities.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
This salaried, exempt role requires at least 40 hours over five days weekly, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Regular full-time benefits include paid leave, employer-paid life insurance, optional health, dental, vision and short-term disability coverage, and market discounts.
How to apply
Apply online for Vegetable Manager. Provide your work and education history, relevant skills, and available start date. You can upload a resume and cover letter. The worksite is 28813 State Road 55, Wardensville.
