Assistant Farm Manager

Smittybuilt Farms is seeking a full-time Assistant Farm Manager in Good Hope, Georgia. This is a hands-on leadership role supporting daily crop, livestock, equipment, and crew operations at an independent local farm. The assistant manager will work directly with the Farm Manager, help translate priorities into safe daily assignments, and step into practical farm work wherever attention is needed. Daily operations and leadership • Help the Farm Manager organize the day's work and supervise staff through completion • Train new employees in farm procedures, safe equipment use, and expected quality standards • Keep useful records for crop production, livestock health, equipment use, and maintenance • Reinforce safety practices around animals, vehicles, tools, irrigation, and machinery • Communicate changing conditions and unresolved problems before they disrupt the operation This position is meant for someone who can lead without standing apart from the work. A typical day may involve checking livestock, helping diagnose an equipment problem, organizing an irrigation task, showing an employee how to use a tool, and updating records so the next shift understands what happened. The successful candidate will be able to prioritize urgent animal or safety needs while still keeping routine production work moving. Livestock and crop responsibilities The assistant manager helps ensure animals are fed, observed, handled, and housed according to the farm's standards. They should notice health or behavior changes, maintain clean living conditions, and know when to raise a concern. Crop work can include planting, irrigation, greenhouse tasks, field care, and harvest. Candidates do not need to know every enterprise on day one, but they should understand the discipline required to follow schedules and document results. Equipment and repairs The role operates tractors, forklifts, heavy machinery, hand tools, and power tools as assigned. It also helps perform preventive maintenance and repairs so equipment remains safe and available. Strong mechanical judgment is particularly useful: candidates should be able to inspect equipment before use, recognize when a machine should be taken out of service, and complete only repairs they are qualified to handle. Welding experience is a plus. Qualifications Prior farm or agricultural experience is expected, and supervisory experience is preferred. Competitive applicants will bring working knowledge of animal husbandry, crop or greenhouse production, irrigation, machinery operation, and practical maintenance. Basic math and accurate recordkeeping are necessary for inventories and production notes. The work is physically demanding and includes heavy lifting, long periods outside, uneven ground, dust, noise, and changing weather. Strong communication and a steady, safety-minded approach are essential. Schedule, pay, and benefits This is a full-time, in-person job starting at $22 per hour. Paid time off is listed.
