About this job

Brant's Apple Orchard is hiring an Assistant Orchard Manager for its orchard and market operation in Ashtabula. Work with the Orchard Manager on fruit production, harvest coordination, and cider making while developing broader orchard-management skills. What you will do • Prune, spray, mow, and maintain orchard equipment and buildings. • Run the apple sorting line and coordinate fruit blends for cider and market sales. • Organize picking staff, schedules, and bins; assist with picking and market stocking. • Support cider pressing and lead farm visits, educational tours, and hayrides. How the work fits together Brian and Jenn Diehl took ownership of Brant's in 2014, continuing an orchard that grew from apple plantings established decades earlier. Thousands of trees and a broad range of apple varieties support a farm market known for fruit, cider, and baked goods. Customers visit during the late-summer and autumn season, which continues through Thanksgiving. The orchard is both a place where fruit is grown and a place where families experience the harvest. That combination gives the assistant manager exposure to crop care, the movement of apples into the market, and the public-facing side of an independent fruit farm. The position reports to the Orchard Manager, with future management potential evaluated through performance. What the employer is looking for • Be at least 18 and able to lift 50 pounds. • Bring agricultural training or education where possible; apple-growing experience is preferred, not required. • Offer equipment and mechanical aptitude, multitasking ability, and friendly communication. • Hold or obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License within one year of hire. Schedule, conditions, and compensation The work schedule varies with the time of year. Pay, weekly hours, and the extent of work outside the public orchard season should be discussed during hiring. Tractor and forklift skills are useful. This position combines hands-on production with responsibility for coordinating other workers. How to apply Use the online application on the Jobs page, or download the printable application and email it to jobs@brantsappleorchard.com. Indicate Assistant Orchard Manager as your preferred role. The orchard is at 4749 Dibble Road in Ashtabula.
