Cold Frame Farm is hiring for the Fall Organic Field Crew position in Romeo, MI. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property. What you will do • Seed, transplant, cultivate, irrigate, harvest, wash, pack, and store crops according to the farm's plan and food-safety procedures. • Use and care for assigned hand tools, wash-pack equipment, carts, and field equipment within training. • Monitor crops and communicate pest, disease, water, weather, quality, or harvest-timing concerns promptly. • Cultivate organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers in outdoor fields and hoop houses through hand weeding, hoeing, bed preparation, fertilizing, netting, trellising, mulching, pruning, and irrigation setup. • Support crop harvests when needed, using the farm's crop-specific picking methods and post-harvest treatments so produce and flowers reach the wash-pack area at the correct stage and quality. • Clean and maintain hand tools and field equipment, keep production spaces orderly, and report irrigation, pest, disease, crop-damage, supply, or equipment concerns before they disrupt the crew's work. What the employer is looking for • One season of farming experience is preferred but not required; the farm is looking for an energetic, flexible, self-motivated person who learns quickly, asks questions, accepts feedback, and works accurately at a useful pace. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and complete long, repetitive periods of standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling in cold, wet, hot, or humid weather while remaining punctual and constructive with the team. • Dependable attendance, direct communication, and willingness to follow the employer's safety, quality, and customer- or production-care procedures. • Ability to complete the role's active, in-person work and to ask for instruction before using unfamiliar tools, equipment, products, or animal-handling methods. Schedule, conditions, and compensation This full-time fall position generally works Monday through Friday through October, with the possibility of continuing into November. Workdays normally begin at 8:00 a.m. and finish around 4:30 p.m., depending on weather and urgent crop needs, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch and 15-minute breaks. The farm can discuss a different weekly arrangement with candidates available only on selected days. Compensation depends on experience and includes a year-end performance bonus.
