About this job

John-Paul's Farm is hiring a seasonal Field Hand in Armagh to help bring vegetables from the field to market. Join Jane and the crew for hands-on harvesting and produce preparation through the end of October. What you will do • Harvest vegetables, then wash and pack them for sale. • Help with planting, weeding, seed starting, irrigation, and farm upkeep. • Learn each task and work both alongside the crew and independently. How the work fits together John-Paul Runyan and Jane Kaminski started their business in 2021 on land that John-Paul's grandfather once farmed. John-Paul handles growing, crop planning, and equipment, while Jane leads field work and manages sales and business operations. Their vegetables reach customers in Indiana and Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood, and the farm contributes produce to local food-access organizations. Cover crops, reduced tillage, and drip irrigation from a spring-fed pond support their approach to growing. The fields remain part of a family-owned landscape where the couple has also planted trees and shrubs for future harvests. Crew members contribute to a farm built around careful growing, community relationships, and learning how to improve each season. What the employer is looking for • Learn quickly, follow instructions, notice details, and maintain an efficient pace. • Repeatedly lift 50 pounds and spend extended periods standing, kneeling, or crouching. • Work outdoors in changing weather; direct vegetable-farming experience is not required. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Starting pay is $15/hour. Work two to four days weekly, Tuesday–Friday, 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Each day includes two paid breaks and an unpaid half-hour lunch. The worksite is 238 Killen Road. How to apply Email johnpaulsfarm@gmail.com with a letter explaining your interest and relevant experience. A resume is encouraged, not required. Write the letter yourself; the farm specifically asks applicants not to use AI-generated letters. Include your availability.
