Farm Crew Member - Vegetables & CSA

Common Thread CSA is hiring a Farm Crew Member for a late-summer or fall start in Madison. Help bring in the vegetable harvest, prepare CSA orders, and maintain the farm, with the opportunity to build skills across the growing year. The owners would especially welcome someone interested in a longer-term farming relationship. What you will do • Harvest, wash, and pack vegetables, and assist with farm maintenance. • Participate in greenhouse seeding, field preparation, transplanting, and tractor work as the seasons change. • Learn different equipment and develop responsibility for a particular area of farm work over time. How the work fits together Common Thread grows mixed vegetables for members who collect shares at the farm or receive delivered boxes, as well as for wholesale customers. Its approach centers on caring for the soil and providing healthy food to local communities. Permanent raised beds and cover crops help the growers balance production with soil-building work. A sponsored-share program and donations to soup kitchens and food pantries extend the harvest to people who might otherwise have difficulty accessing it. The family owners bring decades of vegetable-growing experience to the operation. What the employer is looking for • Two seasons of comparable vegetable-farm experience are preferred. • Be observant, organized, efficient, and able to encourage coworkers patiently. • Have a valid driver's license and be able to lift 50 pounds. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay is $20–$22 hourly. Work is full-time March–December and part-time January–February with NYS Shared Work support.
