Farm Crew Member - Organic Vegetable Production

Finca Seremos is hiring a part-time Farm Crew Member in Callicoon Center. Grow vegetables using organic methods and help prepare fresh food for CSA households. The role works directly with the farm managers and welcomes applicants who want to learn practical farming systems, even without previous agricultural employment. What you will do • Propagate seedlings, transplant, seed, weed, irrigate, and install crop covers. • Harvest, wash, and pack produce; keep growing and harvest records. • Maintain an orderly farm and occasionally assist with markets or CSA distribution. How the work fits together Chris Nickell and Brenda González founded Finca Seremos to connect land stewardship with the well-being of their communities. Their approach combines ecological growing practices, mutual support among members, and a developing worker-owned model. Soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare sit alongside fair working relationships and meaningful participation in decisions. CSA pickups are also places to build relationships and share knowledge and resources. The founders bring backgrounds in education, farming, and community organizing, and see the farm as a long-term project rather than simply a source of produce. This setting offers a close view of a young agricultural business working to make local food more accessible while shaping how its own workplace develops. What the employer is looking for • Be punctual, organized, communicative, and interested in learning farm routines. • Be able to lift 40 pounds and work outdoors in varied safe weather conditions. • Reliable personal transportation is preferred. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay is $18–$22 hourly for 24–36 hours over three or four days weekly. Monday–Wednesday availability is generally needed. The season runs through October 30 with flexible dates; typical fall hours are 8–5 with an unpaid lunch hour. A possible 2027 return is not guaranteed.
