Farm Crew Member — Summer/Fall

Hayshaker Farm is hiring a part-time Farm Crew Member for late summer and fall 2026. Help harvest vegetables and keep a small Walla Walla Valley farm's production moving through November. What you will do • Harvest, wash, and pack vegetables for customer orders. • Seed, transplant, weed, trellis, and assist with irrigation and crop covers. • Help with greenhouse work, farm projects, and deliveries. • Support occasional food-hub tasks alongside the main farm work. How the work fits together Chandler Briggs operates Hayshaker with co-managers Caidy Albano and Theo Ciszewski. The farm grows diversified vegetables and fruit on about eight irrigated acres, using a combination of draft horses, a walk-behind tractor, and a small tractor. Horses contribute both power and compost to the growing system. A land-trust arrangement secured a long-term home for the operation in 2025. Its Walla Walla Food Hub connects customers with Hayshaker produce and goods from other regional producers. The farm sells to households, stores, and restaurants, keeping local food relationships central to its business. The seasonal crew is small enough that work alternates between independent tasks and shared projects. This opening centers on vegetable production, with food-hub support forming a smaller part of the role. What the employer is looking for • Handle repeated 50-pound lifting, bending, and outdoor work in heat, wind, and rain. • Communicate reliably, including through Slack, and work carefully with others. • Be comfortable driving a large van; farm, grocery, or food-hub experience is helpful. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay is $17.50–$18.50 hourly for approximately 24 hours, Wednesday–Friday. Starts vary between 6 and 8 a.m. Produce, food-hub discounts, paid leave, and a small phone allowance are offered. Nearby crew rooms may be rented; housing is not free.
