Farm Crew Member — 2027 Season

Hell's Backbone Grill & Farm is accepting Farm Crew applications for its 2027 season in Boulder. Help grow food for a farm-to-table restaurant in a remote southern Utah community. Previous farming experience is strongly preferred. What you will do • Help with the practical growing and harvest work of a 6.5-acre organic farm. • Support the farm's production of vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruit for the restaurant. • Work with the team in keeping the farm productive and cared for throughout the season. How the work fits together The farm and kitchen are closely linked. Food scraps become compost or feed for the chickens, and soil fertility comes from materials such as leaves, manure, and finished compost. The growing approach avoids artificial fertilizers and uses earth-friendly methods to manage weeds and pests. Fruit is part of the seasonal harvest too: the operation works with orchard crops including apples, pears, peaches, apricots, plums, and grapes. Preserving the harvest helps carry those flavors beyond the picking season. Founders Jen Castle and Blake Spalding built Hell's Backbone around local food, community relationships, and care for its surroundings. The farm is an essential part of that independently developed restaurant business, supplying ingredients that shape what reaches the table. What the employer is looking for • Bring farming experience, a strong work ethic, flexibility, and kindness. • Have your own car or motorcycle; public transportation is not available. • Be prepared for life in a remote town and work with a close team. Schedule, conditions, and compensation The 2027 season runs March through early December. Full-season availability is preferred. Limited staff-house and trailer accommodation may be available at varying rates; request details rather than assuming housing is free.
