Farm Manager - Ruby Grow & Local Foods
High Rocks
👨🌾
About this job
High Rocks is hiring a full-time Farm Manager in Hillsboro to lead Ruby Grow and its local-food programs. Combine hands-on agricultural leadership with mentoring young growers and strengthening access to fresh food in rural Appalachia.
What you will do
• Plan production, develop markets, and manage the farm's business activities and customer relationships.
• Hire, train, supervise, and work alongside young growers and AmeriCorps members.
• Coordinate household-gardening education, food-tradition workshops, partner meetings, and fair-pricing work.
• Support grants, reporting, outreach, and camp activities as part of the local-foods team.
How the work fits together
Ruby Grow is an educational market garden named for founding board member Ruby Burns. Young people learn to raise, harvest, and sell produce while developing business and workplace skills. The garden uses organic practices and supplies the community through farmers markets, pop-up sales, and winter markets. Its work also includes helping people understand how food is produced and what it costs farmers to grow it. High Rocks connects that production with broader efforts to increase access to healthy food and support local growers. The manager brings together the practical work of running a growing operation with the relationships that make a local food system possible. Teaching and agricultural management are closely connected in this role.
What the employer is looking for
• Bring organization, customer focus, communication, and people- and project-management skills.
• A degree, equivalent certification or experience, and commercial agricultural experience are helpful.
• Be prepared for some travel, a background check, and drug screening.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
Annual salary is $40,000–$50,000, depending on education and experience. Benefits include contributions toward health insurance and retirement, five weeks of vacation, professional development, and a flexible workplace policy. The role reports to the Operations Manager and is based in Hillsboro.
How to apply
Email a cover letter or letter of interest, résumé, and references to Summer Martin at summer@highrocks.org. Identify the Farm Manager opening and describe your agricultural, mentoring, and management experience.
