Hearty Roots Community Farm is hiring for year-round retail sales at its Farm Market in Germantown. Help customers shop for farm-grown vegetables and regional foods while keeping produce fresh, displays organized, and the market running smoothly. Full-time and part-time schedules are available. What you will do • Stock, price, weigh, and pack produce; maintain displays and signs. • Welcome shoppers, answer CSA questions, and handle register and cash transactions. • Receive deliveries, organize coolers and backstock, and complete opening, closing, and cleaning tasks. How the work fits together Ben and Lindsey Lusher Shute built Hearty Roots around a direct relationship between farmers and eaters. What began in 2004 on a small rented plot has grown into a family farm with vegetable fields, pasture, and an on-site market. Community-supported agriculture remains central to the business, and its vegetables are certified organic through NOFA-NY. Sheep, pigs, laying hens, and bees are also part of the broader farm setting. The market brings that agricultural work into everyday contact with shoppers, alongside products from other regional producers. Land stewardship and long-term protection of farmland shape the owners' approach. This role suits someone who enjoys food retail in a working-farm environment and wants to help customers connect with the harvest. What the employer is looking for • Have a season of farm or market experience, or at least one year in retail. • Bring clear communication, teamwork, an interest in food and farming, and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay starts at $18 an hour, with higher rates possible for experience. Shifts include 9–5, 11–7, or 1–7; at least one closing shift is required.
