Field Staff - Vegetable, Herb & Flower Production

Rise & Root Farm is hiring seasonal Field Staff in Chester to help grow vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, and seedlings. Join a small cooperative farm in the Hudson Valley's Black Dirt region, working with growers who connect food production with community building and a more inclusive agricultural system. What you will do • Seed, water, transplant, and weed crops through their growing cycle. • Harvest and process produce, and help with other daily farm needs. • Occasionally support weekend farmers-market work. How the work fits together Four women share ownership of this five-acre farm. Its team brings together different generations, racial backgrounds, and LGBTQ+ experiences, with a commitment to making farming welcoming and accessible. The farm is based at the Chester Agricultural Center, placing its growing work within a community of neighboring agricultural businesses. Rise & Root connects urban and rural communities through food, relationships, and programming, and treats social justice as part of its farming mission. For field staff, that means joining an operation where the people producing the harvest and the communities receiving it are central to the farm's purpose. The crop mix offers experience with several kinds of edible plants rather than a single commodity. What the employer is looking for • Bring previous farming experience, reliable transportation, and a local connection to the Chester area. • Work well both independently and with others; adapt to changing assignments and develop an efficient pace. • Be able to lift 40 pounds and work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and wind. Schedule, conditions, and compensation The full-time 2026 season ends October 30. Hourly pay is $17.50–$19, depending on experience, with overtime after 40 hours. Benefits include produce, two vacation days, up to 40 paid sick hours, and a self-care stipend. An optional agricultural training program provides paid classroom learning.
