Field Worker - Vegetable Production

Harmony Ridge Farms is hiring a Field Worker to help grow and harvest vegetables in Tobaccoville, near Winston-Salem. Join a family-run farm producing vegetables, melons, pork, and eggs, with a small crew that takes crops from field preparation through orders for local customers. Full-time and part-time applicants are welcome. What you will do • Prepare fields, cultivate, plant, spray, trellis, and harvest vegetable crops. • Wash and pack produce, help with greenhouse and hoophouse production, and assist at farmers markets. • Take on other farm tasks as needed; optional tractor and machinery training is available. How the work fits together The farm began in 2009 with the Oliver family and is now operated by Isaac Oliver. Its crops reach households through CSA shares, home delivery, and farmers markets, as well as restaurant kitchens. Community outreach boxes are another outlet for the harvest. Crop rotations, cover crops, and compost are part of the farm's approach to maintaining soil fertility. Livestock are raised outdoors on pasture, and the farm also works with a nearby beef producer. This combination of growing, local food distribution, and animal agriculture gives the field crew a practical view of how a diversified farm serves its community. Vegetable production is the focus of this position. What the employer is looking for • Bring initiative, a strong work ethic, and the ability to listen and follow directions; experience is preferred but not required. • Be comfortable with physical work in changing weather and occasional long days. • Work respectfully with coworkers, managers, and customers in a drug-free workplace. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Work usually runs Tuesday–Saturday, approximately 6–7 a.m. to 3–4 p.m., with occasional Mondays. Preference goes to people available through the end of 2026; longer-term work may develop. Hourly pay depends on experience. Employees receive produce and discounted meat and eggs.
