About this job

Stonecrop Farm is hiring a Flower Farm Team Member in Newport for the 2026 growing season. Combine hands-on crop work with preparing flowers for markets, weddings, and events. What you will do • Seed, transplant, and tend flowers and a smaller selection of vegetables. • Harvest and process stems for bouquets and special orders. • Help customers at the Blacksburg Farmers Market stand. • Assist with making, packing, and installing wedding and event flowers. How the work fits together Bert Webster and Gwynn Hamilton began Stonecrop in 2003 on family land in Giles County. Developing the site required building growing areas in rocky terrain and gradually improving the soil. Cover crops, added organic matter, terraces, and protected growing structures helped turn that ground into productive fields. The farm initially focused more heavily on vegetables and salad greens before flowers became its principal crop. That evolution brought growing and floral work into the same small operation. The owners have worked with a succession of seasonal crew members over the years, building a farm where practical effort and creativity meet. The team follows flowers beyond the field, preparing them for local market customers and celebrations. A person who enjoys both working with plants and arranging them can experience those connected parts of the business. What the employer is looking for • Bring horticultural, agricultural, or artistic skills and a willingness to get dirty. • Be observant, efficient, receptive to feedback, and comfortable serving customers. • Have stamina for outdoor physical work and work well independently or with others. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Full- and part-time seasonal arrangements are available through November. The farm offers training, flexible scheduling, vegetables and flowers, and opportunities to take on more responsibility. Confirm the hourly pay, remaining seasonal schedule, and event commitments directly with the owners. How to apply Email your resume to stonecropfarmers@gmail.com. Introduce your growing or creative background, explain which parts of flower farming interest you, and provide your available dates and weekly schedule. You can also contact the farm at 540-599-0839.
