About this job

Prospect Hill Flower Farm is hiring a Grower Assistant in Louisa County. Work with a small team tending, harvesting, and preparing sustainably grown cut flowers for Central Virginia customers. What you will do • Prepare soil, spread compost, seed, transplant, and weed. • Clear finished crops and help with high tunnels and crop protection. • Harvest and process flowers, fill orders, and make bouquets. • Assist at the St. Stephen's farmers market on selected Saturdays. How the work fits together Walter and Britton own and grow at Prospect Hill, combining Walter's agricultural experience with Britton's business background and longstanding interest in flowers. They met in Bolivia and later moved to Virginia to establish their farm. Around two acres produce a wide selection of seasonal blooms. Compost, mulches, cover crops, and organic fertilizers support soil health, while beneficial-insect habitat contributes to their growing approach. Successive plantings keep flowers available across the season: finished beds are cleared, prepared, and replanted as different varieties come into bloom. Unheated high tunnels extend production into cooler months. The harvest reaches florists, designers, market shoppers, and flower-share members. This is a hands-on setting where someone interested in flowers can see how crop planning, field care, harvest timing, and presentation connect. What the employer is looking for • Work efficiently, learn quickly, and communicate well with a small team. • Lift 50 pounds and handle repetitive tasks and prolonged standing outdoors. • Bring an interest in sustainable growing; commercial growing experience is preferred. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay is $15–$17 hourly for approximately 15–25 hours across two or three days weekly. Flowers are included. The season runs into November or December 2026. The farm values a full-season commitment; discuss the remaining dates and your actual availability. How to apply Email your resume and cover letter to britton@prospecthillfarm.net. Describe relevant growing or customer-service experience and your available workdays, start date, and Saturday availability. Ask about the current seasonal schedule and potential work beyond the main growing season.
