Cattail Organics is hiring a High Tunnel and Greenhouse Specialist in Athens. Develop practical crop-management skills while working with the owners of a small organic vegetable farm. What you will do • Help manage high tunnels and successive plantings of greens and transplanted crops. • Learn greenhouse systems and contribute to improving growing routines. • Assist with harvesting, weeding, packing orders, and shared field projects. • Work with planting calendars and communicate clearly with the farm team. How the work fits together Farmer Kat built her farming life in Athens after a varied path into agriculture. Her interest in plant varieties and breeding sits alongside the everyday work of growing food for the community. Cattail supplies vegetables, seedlings, herbs, and maple syrup to households and local buyers. Clean handling and careful presentation matter whether food is going to a CSA member, a restaurant, a school, or a food bank. The family property combines vegetable ground with a maple grove, stream, pond, insect habitat, and a developing apple orchard. These different parts of the landscape support a farm that values both production and biodiversity. Working here means joining that family setting and contributing to a growing program shaped by seasonal eating, crop diversity, and close attention to food quality. What the employer is looking for • Have strong communication skills and a willingness to learn complex planting systems. • Bring trellising experience and the ability to work in heat and cold. • Lift fifty pounds occasionally; tractor experience is helpful but not required. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Starting pay is $17–$20 hourly. Main-season work is at least 36 hours weekly, ideally 40–45; winter hours reduce to roughly 10–20. Benefits include paid leave after six months, retirement contributions, and a gear stipend. Short-term relocation housing is available without charge; longer-term rental housing may be possible.
