Lavender Field Worker
Appalachian Botanical Co.
🌾 🥕
About this job
Appalachian Botanical Co. is hiring Lavender Field Workers in Boone County. Earn $11.50 an hour helping grow lavender and maintain fields on reclaimed mining land in Ashford. This is an opportunity to learn practical growing skills while working outdoors with a local team.
What you will do
• Prepare and maintain fields by clearing brush and rocks and building stone barriers.
• Keep water tanks supplied and help with watering.
• Plant and propagate lavender, prune plants, control weeds, and bring in the harvest.
How the work fits together
Founded by Jocelyn Sheppard, the business began planting lavender in 2019 with the aim of creating useful work on previously mined land. Lavender and honey form the agricultural foundation for body-care, culinary, and household products. The company combines local production with a commitment to helping people overcome barriers to employment. Its growing approach avoids pesticides to support the honeybees associated with the lavender fields. The farm and its processing operation contribute different stages of production, connecting plant care with finished products made in West Virginia. Field employees help keep that agricultural foundation productive. The company also works with outside organizations that can help employees access support and remain in work.
What the employer is looking for
• Be eighteen or older, responsible, reliable, and willing to learn.
• Enjoy outdoor teamwork and be able to pass the employer's drug screening.
• Applicants facing barriers such as prior incarceration or substance-use issues are welcome; the farm asks affected applicants to demonstrate participation or planned enrollment in an appropriate recovery or peer-support program.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
Seasonal employment generally extends from early spring into mid-fall, with limited year-round opportunities. The application offers preferences for forty-hour full-time or twenty-hour part-time work. Confirm the available start date, remaining season, and assigned schedule during the interview.
How to apply
Complete the Employment Application on the Come Work With Us page to request an interview. Provide recent work experience, your preferred hours, available start date, and two job or character references. For questions, call 304-956-4015.
