About this job

JK Design is hiring a part-time farm hand at a small mixed-livestock property in Social Circle, Georgia. Horses are the largest part of the daily routine, but the employee also provides hands-on care for the farm's sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens. This posting is suited to someone who can combine patient livestock observation with practical property and equipment work. What you will do β€’ Feed, water, turn out, and monitor horses, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens according to the farm's routine β€’ Check gates, fences, water containers, shelter, bedding, and animal areas and report concerns promptly β€’ Keep barns, storage areas, pastures, arenas, and workspaces clean and organized β€’ Repair fencing and complete landscaping or property projects with hand and power tools β€’ Operate tractors, mowers, weed trimmers, blowers, and other approved equipment β€’ Load, unload, and move feed, bedding, materials, and supplies safely around the farm How the work fits together A good shift begins with animal checks and ends with every animal accounted for, water available, gates secured, and tools returned. The hand may move from feeding sheep and other livestock to mowing, a fence repair, barn cleanup, or basic equipment troubleshooting. Because this is a small operation, the employee often works independently and must notice the next practical need without ignoring the assigned priorities or attempting an unsafe repair. What the farm is looking for Prior equine experience is highly desirable, and experience with sheep or other small livestock is valuable. Applicants should bring mechanical awareness, familiarity with power tools or farm equipment, and basic math for measurements, inventory, and records. Welding or repair experience is useful but not required. Strong attendance, physical stamina, an excellent work ethic, and the ability to work alone while cooperating with the rest of the team are essential. Schedule, conditions, and compensation This is a part-time position paying $15–$16 per hour for an expected 25–30 hours per week. The schedule is described as flexible. The work is outdoors in changing weather and includes lifting and physically demanding chores. Candidates should confirm the regular days, morning or evening animal-care windows, weekend coverage, and how schedule changes are handled. This is an in-person agricultural position. Farm priorities can change with animal health, weather, crop condition, equipment availability, and harvest timing, so the successful person must communicate clearly and adjust without losing sight of safety or animal welfare. Daily notes and records should be complete enough that another team member can understand what was observed, what was done, and what still needs attention. Tools, vehicles, gates, feed areas, water systems, and workspaces should be left clean, secure, and ready for the next shift. Applicants should expect physical work that can include standing or walking for long periods, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, wet or dusty conditions, and work outdoors or in warm agricultural buildings. A dependable arrival time matters because livestock and living production systems cannot simply wait for a late shift. Candidates should ask the employer about the exact weekly schedule, overtime treatment, training period, and any benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. How to apply Apply through the current Indeed search for JK Design's Equine Farm Hand/Laborer opening. In your application, distinguish experience with sheep and other livestock from horse-only experience and list tractors, mowers, tools, welding, mechanical work, fencing, and landscaping skills.
