New Beat Farm is hiring for the Organic Vegetable & Flower Farm Crew position in Knox, ME. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. What you will do • Seed, transplant, cultivate, irrigate, harvest, wash, pack, and store crops according to the farm's plan and food-safety procedures. • Use and care for assigned hand tools, wash-pack equipment, carts, and field equipment within training. • Monitor crops and communicate pest, disease, water, weather, quality, or harvest-timing concerns promptly. • Produce greenhouse seedlings, manage assigned high-tunnel work, prepare no-till beds, plant vegetables and flowers, weed, prune, irrigate, and repair farm infrastructure. • Harvest vegetables and flowers on the farm's Monday and Thursday market rhythm, then wash, pack, count, and organize produce carefully for each sales outlet. • Take responsibility for trained independent projects such as succession seeding, tunnel or irrigation management, and individual crop care when experience, interest, and farm needs align. What the employer is looking for • At least one year of production-vegetable-farm, landscaping, or comparable physical outdoor work experience, with stronger vegetable or flower backgrounds eligible for higher-responsibility assignments. • Ability to lift 50 pounds, work through varied weather and long repetitive periods of squatting or kneeling, follow layered instructions, maintain detail and positivity, communicate well, and work productively alone or with the crew. • Dependable attendance, direct communication, and willingness to follow the employer's safety, quality, and customer- or production-care procedures. • Ability to complete the role's active, in-person work and to ask for instruction before using unfamiliar tools, equipment, products, or animal-handling methods. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Full-time crew work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with Friday mornings added June through September and one Saturday morning per month. Part-time harvest work is Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 a.m.–1:00 or 4:00 p.m. Full-time full-season pay starts at $18 per hour depending on experience and includes earned paid time off plus farm vegetables and flowers; part-time rates vary. The employer publishes starting compensation of $18 per hour; no upper limit is stated.
