About this job

Learn diversified farming through a paid New Mexico Workforce pre-apprenticeship at HawkMoth Farm in Anton Chico. Work alongside the growers and independently on everyday farm assignments while building skills for a career in sustainable agriculture. Jeanette Hart-Mann and Bill Mann run this small family farm, combining food production with seed saving and care for the surrounding ecosystem. What you will do β€’ Participate in basic farm work alongside the growers and carry out independent assignments. β€’ Learn market farming, agroecology, and seed saving. β€’ Develop knowledge of sheep, dairy production, and poultry. β€’ Explore food preservation and tree-integrated farming systems. How the work fits together HawkMoth raises fruits and vegetables in outdoor fields and hoop houses, with crops supplying local markets, senior centers, schools, and food banks. The family began developing the farm in 2007, building its growing spaces and restoring former alfalfa fields. Today, cover crops and livestock help support soil health and manage crop residues. Chickens, ducks, honeybees, and Awassi sheep form part of the operation; the sheep are raised for milk, meat, and wool. The farm also experiments with crops and saves seed to develop plants suited to its dry climate. This mix provides a learning environment connecting crop production, animals, food access, and long-term land care. What the employer is looking for β€’ Be at least 16 years old and interested in developing a future in sustainable agriculture. β€’ Confirm residency and enrollment eligibility for the New Mexico Workforce pre-apprenticeship with the farm. Schedule, conditions, and compensation The pre-apprenticeship is paid and can involve up to 40 hours per week. Contact the farm to discuss the wage, starting date, length of placement, and weekly schedule. How to apply Email hawkmothfarms@gmail.com to apply or ask about the paid pre-apprenticeship. Introduce yourself, explain what you hope to learn, and share your availability. Specify the New Mexico Workforce pre-apprenticeship so the farm can discuss the appropriate program and next steps with you.
