Part-Time Farmer - Vegetables, Herbs & Flowers

Little Gem Farm is hiring a part-time seasonal farmer in Chester. Work closely with owner and grower Zoe Friedberg on a two-acre vegetable, herb, and flower farm. The position offers hands-on involvement in a small operation, from greenhouse work to the harvest prepared for customers. What you will do • Help operate the greenhouse and transplant crops into the growing area. • Assist with irrigation and the everyday work of crop production. • Harvest, wash, and pack vegetables, herbs, and flowers. How the work fits together Zoe founded Little Gem in 2023 to supply diverse, sustainably grown produce to the Lower Hudson Valley. The farm rents land at the Chester Agricultural Center, where neighboring growers also work the region's fertile Black Dirt soils. Its approach emphasizes regenerative methods, soil health, and a varied farm ecosystem without synthetic pesticides. A CSA connects the harvest to member households, and the farm also participates in the Nyack Farmers Market. Flowers and herbs grow alongside vegetables, giving the operation a mixed crop focus on a compact acreage. The farm's connection to its community is central to why it grows, and a small crew works close to both the plants and the person making daily growing decisions. What the employer is looking for • Farming or other outdoor work experience is helpful but not required. • Be detail-oriented, flexible, self-motivated, and comfortable working alone or with others. • Have a driver's license and reliable transportation; be able to lift 50 pounds, stand, and perform repeated physical tasks in varied weather. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Work two to four days weekly, including Monday and Tuesday; Thursday or Friday are optional additional days. Pay is listed at $18 hourly depending on experience. The season continues through late October, with flexible dates for the right candidate. Free vegetables and flowers are included.
