Sugar Roots Farm is hiring for the Part-Time Farmhand / Farm Educator position in New Orleans, LA. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property. What you will do • Feed, water, observe, move, and care for animals according to the farm's routines and welfare standards. • Clean and bed housing, maintain fences and water systems, and keep feed, tools, and care areas orderly. • Report changes in appetite, behavior, movement, injury, health, births, or facility condition immediately. • Lead educational tours for PreK through high-school groups, guide service-learning students, and help volunteers and interns participate safely in meaningful farm tasks. • Feed, water, observe, and clean up after the farm animals; maintain pens and care areas and support transportation, medication, or basic care during veterinary emergencies as directed. • Prepare garden beds, seed and tend crops, assist with pest management and fertilization, support the farm stand, and help maintain barns, greenhouses, kitchens, sheds, and visitor spaces.
