Butterbee Farm is hiring for the Part-Time Flower Harvester position in White Hall, MD. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. What you will do • Seed, transplant, cultivate, irrigate, harvest, wash, pack, and store crops according to the farm's plan and food-safety procedures. • Use and care for assigned hand tools, wash-pack equipment, carts, and field equipment within training. • Monitor crops and communicate pest, disease, water, weather, quality, or harvest-timing concerns promptly. • Harvest flowers and foliage at the correct stage, selecting design-quality stems and maintaining the speed, consistency, and careful handling required for florist customers. • Wash harvest buckets and help with planting, weeding, and other field priorities after the morning cutting is complete, shifting tasks as crop and weather conditions require. • Work independently during focused harvest assignments while communicating quality questions, accepting constructive feedback, and helping the small crew leave tools and work areas ready for the next harvest. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Harvesters work five-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. on two to four mornings per week. Butterbee is hiring for Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday coverage. The first work period ran from mid-March through late June; the active second period runs from mid-August through early November. Starting pay for someone new to farming or gardening is $17 per hour, with higher pay based on experience. This part-time seasonal position does not include paid sick or vacation leave, and the farm asks employees to take no more than one week away during the work period. The employer publishes starting compensation of $17 per hour; no upper limit is stated.
