Research Assistant I/II — Peanut Disease Research

Auburn University's Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is hiring a full-time Research Assistant to coordinate field-based peanut disease research and support Alabama Official Variety Trials. This one-year, externally funded appointment works with cotton, corn, grain sorghum, peanut, ryegrass, small grains, and soybean trials at Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station locations across the state. What you will do • Help develop research proposals, field plans, and protocols for the peanut disease program • Establish, maintain, and evaluate variety trials, including collecting disease ratings and yield measurements • Travel to research stations across Alabama, record observations, compile results, and complete basic analysis • Operate farm equipment, haul machinery, and support planting, crop care, and harvest activities • Prepare clear written summaries and help develop publications or professional presentations • Train or supervise undergraduate and graduate students during field work • Support field days and explain research to growers, researchers, and other stakeholders Qualifications Research Assistant I requires a bachelor's degree in plant pathology, entomology, agronomy, soil science, or a closely related discipline. Level II also requires two years of related research experience. Applicants should be organized, analytical, comfortable working independently and with a team, and able to communicate results clearly. A valid driver's license is required. Row-crop research experience and a pesticide applicator license, or willingness to earn one during the first year, are preferred. The work includes frequent outdoor walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, safe chemical handling, statewide travel, and days that may cover several miles in research plots. Salary is $35,300–$55,910.
