Pig & CSA Farm Crew Member

Little Ridge Farm is hiring a seasonal crew member in Lisbon Falls, Maine for its 2026 field and CSA season. Owner Keena Tracy runs a diversified organic operation with about five acres of vegetables, summer pigs and turkeys, ducks, a CSA, wholesale accounts, and a developing farm stand. The regular team is only three to six part-time local people. This opening is genuinely mixed farm work: crop production and CSA responsibility alongside daily care for the farm's pigs and poultry. What you will do • Feed, water, and care for pigs, turkeys, and ducks and watch for fence, shelter, feed, or animal-health concerns • Seed, transplant, weed, and harvest vegetables and water greenhouse seedlings • Lay plastic mulch and drip tape and help set up and run basic irrigation • Clean hand tools and return them to the correct place; keep barns, greenhouses, and shared work areas orderly • Drive a farm truck on farm property when assigned and protect coworkers, farm dogs, cats, and livestock around moving vehicles • Help manage customized pre-bagged CSA shares if selected for that responsibility How the work fits together The exact balance changes through the season. A crew member may begin with pig and poultry chores, spend the main work block harvesting or transplanting, and finish by preparing CSA shares or cleaning the barn. The farm expects people to pay attention beyond the immediate task—for example, noticing eaten produce, a failing fence, a dry seedling tray, or unsafe equipment. Optional work can include greenhouse seeding, blog or social posts, and building or repairing barns, hoop houses, and animal pens. What the farm is looking for Applicants need to be comfortable outdoors in all weather, able to lift 40 pounds safely, and capable of kneeling or bending for several hours. The farm looks for positive, open-minded people who will try new tasks, communicate clearly, and work well either with the crew or alone. Candidates should be ready at the stated start time and bring appropriate boots, clothing, sun protection, and other personal gear. Prior pig, poultry, vegetable, CSA, greenhouse, irrigation, carpentry, or farm-truck experience is useful but not listed as a universal requirement. Schedule, conditions, and compensation The 2026 work season runs from mid-April through mid-November, Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The farm prefers three or four days per week, approximately 27–40 hours, and pays $16 per hour. Benefits include a CSA half share, extra vegetables, a paid half-hour lunch, free on-farm yoga and body-mechanic classes, one physical-therapy session, and access to farm woodland trails. Applicants should confirm current remaining-season hours and the mix of livestock and CSA responsibility. This is an in-person agricultural position. Priorities can change with animal health, weather, crop condition, water quality, equipment availability, and harvest timing. The successful person must communicate clearly, protect animal welfare and food safety, and leave useful notes when a task or concern carries into the next shift. Gates, tools, vehicles, feed areas, water systems, and production spaces should be left clean, secure, and ready for the next person.
