Perennial Department Manager

Landon's Greenhouse is hiring a Perennial Department Manager in Sheridan. This full-time, year-round role combines hands-on plant care, department leadership, and helping customers choose plants for their gardens. What you will do • Oversee watering, feeding, pruning, pest management, and overall plant quality. • Order stock, manage inventory, and arrange seasonal sales displays. • Train and support department staff while coordinating with other teams. • Advise customers on plant selection and care, and track results using Excel and internal systems. How the work fits together Jack and Kathy Landon founded the business on four acres near Big Horn in 1979. The Sheridan retail store followed in 2001. Keith and Jennifer Kershaw, who became involved in 2012, now own the nursery and bring experience from both wholesale and retail horticulture. Keith grew up in Sheridan and returned to continue working with plants in his hometown. In 2020, the growing operation moved behind the store, bringing production and retail together. Seven greenhouses provided 29,400 square feet of growing space at that stage, with further additions afterward. The team includes trained growers, arborists, and Master Gardeners. Staff development includes vendor visits, industry events, workshops, and professional certifications. The perennial department sits within this locally owned growing-and-retail business, where plant knowledge and customer relationships are closely connected. What the employer is looking for • Know perennial plants and sound horticultural practices. • Bring careful organization, clear communication, and customer-service skills. • Use Excel comfortably and collaborate well; nursery experience is preferred, and management experience is helpful. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay depends on experience. The position includes dental and vision insurance, vacation, and sick days.
