Poultry & Diversified Farm Assistant
Glen Brook Farm

About this job
Glen Brook Farm is seeking a seasonal assistant farm manager at its small diversified regenerative farm in Marlborough, New Hampshire. The working farm occupies part of Camp Glen Brook's 250-acre property but its production footprint is intentionally modest: about one acre of vegetables, fruit, and flowers plus small groups of laying hens, broilers, sheep, cows, goats, and pigs. The assistant supports daily poultry and livestock care, crop production, harvest, and hands-on farm education.
What you will do
β’ Feed, water, and observe laying hens and broilers and keep poultry areas, equipment, and chore routines orderly
β’ Help care for the farm's sheep, cows, goats, and pigs and report health or fencing concerns
β’ Seed, plant, cultivate, irrigate, harvest, wash, and pack vegetables, fruit, and flowers
β’ Deliver farm produce to the camp kitchen and help prepare wholesale, retail, or donation orders
β’ Work with the farm manager to plan and carry out seasonal goals and general maintenance
β’ Teach or assist children, young adults, and families as they participate safely in farm activities
How the work fits together
Daily work moves between animal chores and the acre of diversified crops. Poultry need dependable care on weekends and holidays as well as weekdays, while harvest timing and the camp kitchen's needs influence the field plan. The assistant should model calm handling, biosecurity, clean egg and food practices, and safe tool use when young people are present. Weekly staff meetings, shared work time, professional-development opportunities, and occasional preparation before major events are also part of the residential community role.
What the farm is looking for
Some farming and/or teaching experience is required, along with a positive attitude, willingness to work hard, ability to lift 50 pounds, and ability to pass a background check. A driver's license and clean driving record are desired. Strong candidates are comfortable with poultry and mixed livestock, can explain a farm task patiently, and know when a child or inexperienced participant needs closer supervision. Experience with vegetable production, high tunnels, harvest and wash-pack, animal-health observation, farm education, or basic maintenance should be highlighted.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
This is a full-time seasonal residential position running April through November. Compensation is a weekly stipend of $350β$450 depending on experience plus full room and board; for most of the year, the camp kitchen provides three meals a day. Because the season is underway, applicants should confirm the remaining start date, stipend, housing arrangement, days off, weekend animal rotation, meal schedule, background-check timing, and expectations when camp programs or farm events are active.
This is an in-person agricultural position. Priorities can change with animal health, weather, crop condition, water quality, equipment availability, and harvest timing. The successful person must communicate clearly, protect animal welfare and food safety, and leave useful notes when a task or concern carries into the next shift. Gates, tools, vehicles, feed areas, water systems, and production spaces should be left clean, secure, and ready for the next person.
Applicants should expect physical work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, wet or dusty conditions, and work outdoors or in agricultural buildings. Dependable arrival matters because livestock and living production systems cannot simply wait for a late shift. Candidates should confirm the exact weekly schedule, overtime treatment, training period, and benefit eligibility with the employer before accepting an offer.
How to apply
Email farm@glenbrook.org or apply through the current Glen Brook Farm opening. Include a resume and brief note explaining farm and teaching experience, poultry and livestock species handled, vegetable or wash-pack skills, experience working safely with children, driver's-license status, background-check readiness, and availability to live on site through November.
