Seasonal Farmhand

Zephyr Farm is hiring a Farmhand for vegetable and egg production in western Cranston. Join a small crew working through September, helping with crops from seeding through harvest and with the laying flock's daily needs. What you will do • Seed greenhouse crops; plant, trellis, weed, and set up irrigation. • Harvest, wash, and pack vegetables, including hoop-house crops. • Feed and move chickens and collect, wash, and sort eggs. • Provide occasional farmers-market coverage. How the work fits together Founder Michele began working on farms in 1998 and established Zephyr in 2008 after coordinating work involving Urban Edge Farm and Southside Community Land Trust. The business supplies seasonal vegetables, herbs, and eggs through markets, local pickup, and wholesale relationships. Its growing approach avoids synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and considers the health of the soil, animals, workers, and customers together. Chickens move between pasture areas, while dogs and a working barn cat are familiar parts of the setting. The crew brings varied backgrounds to a shared sequence of planting, gathering, cleaning, and preparing food for customers. This is a working commercial farm where thoughtful methods and a dependable team make the season's production possible. What the employer is looking for • Lift 35 pounds repeatedly and work outdoors in varied weather. • Follow directions, work efficiently, and be dependable both independently and with others. • Have a clean driving record and driver's license, and enjoy dogs. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay starts at $16/hour, based on experience, with produce and selected product discounts.
