About this job

Georgia Solar Grazing is hiring a ranch hand in Andersonville, Georgia to help care for working sheep flocks and manage vegetation on solar sites. The Reams brothers' small partnership uses rotational grazing, mowing, selective weed control, and overseeding to improve soil cover and reduce fire and erosion risk around solar arrays. What you will do β€’ Feed, water, count, and observe sheep and other assigned livestock for health or behavior changes β€’ Sort, herd, load, unload, and transport animals using calm low-stress methods β€’ Move temporary fencing, troughs, handling equipment, and mineral or feed supplies between paddocks β€’ Repair and maintain fences, pens, barns, gates, and other ranch structures β€’ Operate tractors, ATVs, zero-turn mowers, weed trimmers, and other approved equipment safely β€’ Mow, control weeds, assist with planting or spraying, and support rotational-grazing plans around solar infrastructure How the work fits together The ranch hand will combine animal husbandry with vegetation management. Before moving a flock, the employee may inspect fencing, water, shade, access, and hazards around electrical infrastructure. After the move, counts and observations must be recorded and gates secured. Machinery work should protect panels, cables, wildlife habitat, and soil. Sheep care continues on weekends and holidays, so the team coordinates coverage rather than leaving routine checks undone. What the farm is looking for Ranch, farm, livestock, landscaping, or equipment experience is preferred. Applicants should understand basic animal welfare, recognize when a sheep may be injured or unwell, and be willing to learn flock movement and grazing practices. Safe experience with tractors, ATVs, mowers, trailers, or fencing tools is useful. The role requires physical stamina, independent judgment, clear communication, and comfort working for long periods outside in heat, rain, mud, uneven ground, and active solar sites. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay is $17–$22 per hour based on experience. The employer lists full-time, part-time, contract, and temporary possibilities with flexible scheduling. Extended hours, weekends, and holidays may be needed. Applicants should confirm employment classification, normal work territory, travel expectations, mileage or vehicle arrangements, overtime treatment, and the expected duration during the interview. This is an in-person agricultural position. Farm priorities can change with animal health, weather, crop condition, equipment availability, and harvest timing, so the successful person must communicate clearly and adjust without losing sight of safety or animal welfare. Daily notes and records should be complete enough that another team member can understand what was observed, what was done, and what still needs attention. Tools, vehicles, gates, feed areas, water systems, and workspaces should be left clean, secure, and ready for the next shift. Applicants should expect physical work that can include standing or walking for long periods, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, wet or dusty conditions, and work outdoors or in warm agricultural buildings. A dependable arrival time matters because livestock and living production systems cannot simply wait for a late shift. Candidates should ask the employer about the exact weekly schedule, overtime treatment, training period, and any benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. How to apply Email a resume to Georgiasolargrazing@gmail.com with β€œRanch Hand” in the subject line. Include sheep or other livestock experience, equipment and trailer skills, fencing knowledge, driver's-license status, schedule availability, and examples of dependable outdoor work.
