Fall 2026 Stewardship Technician

Walker Basin Conservancy is hiring for the Fall 2026 Stewardship Technician position in Smith Valley, NV. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property. What you will do • Install and maintain assigned native-plant, irrigation, fence, invasive-plant, fuels-reduction, trail, stream, wetland, or habitat-restoration projects. • Use hand tools, field equipment, vehicles, and approved treatment methods within completed training, certification, and project boundaries. • Document progress and communicate changing field conditions, safety concerns, plant or water issues, equipment needs, and work that falls outside the approved plan. • Implement fuels management and conifer removal, mechanical or chemical weed control, wildlife-friendly fence construction, irrigation installation and operation, native-plant revegetation, trail work, stream restoration, and wetland improvements as assigned. • Work on a small technician team under a Stewardship Specialist, organize tools and materials efficiently, follow project and safety protocols, and deliver the measurable field result scheduled for each site. • Prepare for remote four- to eight-day camping hitches, adapt to shifting field priorities without losing the project objective, and communicate access, weather, fire, water, plant, treatment, equipment, or safety concerns promptly. How the work fits together Stewardship projects begin with the ecological objective, site conditions, safety plan, and the day's measurable scope. Small field teams stage tools and materials, implement the assigned treatment, check quality as work progresses, and document results before leaving the site. Weather, fire conditions, water, access, wildlife, and plant timing may change priorities, so technicians must communicate and adapt without departing from the project lead's direction. Schedule, conditions, and compensation This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt seasonal position from September through December 2026 in Smith Valley. The expected pay range is $20 to $23 per hour depending on experience.
